Local On line Radio

We have gathered amazing stories about local peoples lives in the past and the diverse skills of local people.

With the help of a grant from the Lottery 'Awards for All' in November 2008, we set about gathering these together and making them available online.

Click on the blue links below to be taken to places where you can listen to the recordings, or download them to your computer.

Wordpress

We've had a site at Wordpress for a number of years, but now it's been adapted for radio.

Click on the blue button on the right and you'll be taken to the front page.

There's a selection of programmes on the left, but look down on the right for a list of old shows. Each one is available for listening.

Chalk Talk

'East Salford Direct' is the new name, but we'll always know it as Chalk Talk, the website for Charlestown and Lower Kersal (CHALK).

There's a selection of podcasts here, plus some edited radio shows. The top bit is information, so scroll down until you reach the good stuff.

Click the button on the right, and the site will open in a new window.

Podbean

If you've got podcasts, then, sooner or later, you'll need 'Podbean'.

That's what we were told.

It's a great site for saving podcasts, radio shows and broadcasts and we've made it the home of our 'Queen Alexandra' show.

It's also the place where we saved last year's Health Podcasts, paid for by the Primary Care Trust, Salford PCT.

Click on the link on the right and you'll be taken straight there. Note the impressive picture of a local garden. We can grow green in Ordsall!

Archive

All the audio pieces are archived somewhere, but you may not know that there is an actual site called 'Archive.org'.

That's the first place we started putting our podcasts. Click on the link on the right to see the list.

MixCloud

Now, as many people know, Salford LIDS members contribute to Salford City Radio.

We have a regular programme at 6pm on a Sunday evening, and you can hear it live on 94.4fm or go to the radio website and click the 'Listen' button.

Radio link

There's no facility for saving old programmes on the Salford City Radio website, so LIDS members have scoured the internet and discovered a very helpful site called 'MixCloud', where they are offering to save our previous broadcasts as complete shows. We've upload a selection of our programmes, so if you follow the Mixcloud link, you will be able to listen or download these programmes for your listening pleasure.

Videos

Finally, just to be complete, if it's videos that you want, Salford LIDS has recently been involved in making videos.

Some of these are simply moving pictures of events we've been involved in, such as the Ordsall Festival and Heritage Weekend. Other videos are actually drama, fiction pieces with local kids.

This may well be a growth area in the future, as it offers great opportunities for both film makers and actors.

Of course, we started on Youtube.

Unfortunately, Youtube has restrictions on size and length of videos. So we've had to use XR as another outlet. Try it.
